Medication

If your pet requires long-term medication

If your pet requires long-term medication to keep them at their best a repeat prescription can be set up where a vet has deemed this appropriate.  We have to follow strict regulations when dispensing medicines and have to examine the patient at least every 6 months to ensure the medication is working properly, that the animal being treated is not suffering any side effects, and that the animal’s health is not deteriorating unnoticed.

The exception to this may be prescription parasite control where we may be able to dispense these medications as long as we have seen your pet in the last 12 months and have an up to date weight for dosing purposes. A vet consult would be required in this instance for a full health check

We have a large dispensary with many of the medications and prescription diets required in stock, but occasionally have to order items as required. Giving us 48 hours notice allows us to make sure your order is in stock and ready for collection.

If you wish to source prescription medicines elsewhere we can provide a prescription for a small fee, again pending on a recent veterinary examination. We would recommend sourcing medications from retailers accredited by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) to ensure they are safe and effective. More information on accredited retailers can be found here.

Once a repeat prescription has been authorised by a vet, we would ask that you call us on 01280 703451 to request the medication, and then give us 48 hours before coming to collect the medication. This is so it can be checked by a vet and prepared for collection.
